Dear Friends,

In February of 2010 we invited you to take part in our first “No-Show Gala.”  We are deeply grateful for your generous response.  Donations totaling $8,720 came very close to our goal of raising $9,000 for utilities for the house for the year.  Thank you!

As you know, Kentucky Mansions Preservation Foundation promotes historic preservation in the Kentucky and maintains and operates the Mary Todd Lincoln House in Lexington.  Its association with presidential and women’s history makes the house significant on a national level.  Since its opening in 1977 as the first historic house museum to honor a First Lady, the museum has welcomed over 220,000 visitors.

The energy and passion of those who led the effort to restore the house thirty-five years ago still lives in everyone involved with the museum today.  The board of directors is currently developing a strategic plan to capture that energy and move the museum forward.  The vision is to:

·   Create a culture of innovation in all areas while honoring tradition

·   Be actively involved and engaged in our community to increase our relevancy

     and better serve our stakeholders

·   Expand and energize educational programming, with an emphasis on entertainment,

     authenticity, and historical experience

·   Collaborate with other cultural, heritage, and educational institutions

·   Maintain the highest levels of best practices and standards in preservation, education,

     and governance

·   Ensure a sustainable future for KMPF through financial stability, security, and growth

We are asking for your help in again covering basic operating expenses to free up other resources to pursue this ambitious vision.  Basic utility and security expenses for 2011 will cost $9,150.  An additional $7,295 would cover insurance expenses as well.

Your generous gift to Kentucky Mansions Preservation Foundation will help to launch the new vision for the Mary Todd Lincoln House.  As always, we thank you for your consideration and support.

Sincerely,

The KMPF Board of Directors
